9 Days Rwanda Primates Safari is a trip across three national parks in Rwanda – Akagera, Nyungwe and Volcanoes National parks. It also involves activities like chimpanzee and gorilla trekking, canopy walk, boat cruise, photography, to mention but a few.

Detailed tour.

Day 1: From Kigali International Airport to a hotel.

As soon as you arrive at Kigali International airport, you are welcomed by a tour guide with a placard bearing your name. You are then led to Kigali city for an introductory tour around the city and lunch. You will then check in at any hotel of your choice for relaxation and a sleepover in preparation for the next day.

Day 2: From Kigali to Nyungwe forest N/Park.

After a delicious breakfast at the Hotel, you sign out and set for a journey to Nyungwe Forest National park (about four to five hour drive). You check into any lodge of your choice for relaxation and stay until the next day.

Day 3: Trekking chimpanzees and canopy walk (Nyungwe Forest NP).

Wakeup early in the morning, bless your intestines with a delicious breakfast and then go to the Park headquarters for a short briefing before trekking commences. By the time you start trekking you will have already met these giant apes playing and preparing their day and climbing from tree to tree whereas they make noise. Here you can take as many pictures as your camera can accommodate.

When the activity comes to the climax, you then meet your guide/driver and head back to the hotel for lunch and relaxation.

In the evening you get an opportunity of taking part in the majestic canopy walk for almost two hours before you return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Transfer to Volcanoes N/Park.

This five to six hour drives from Nyungwe to Volcanoes starts immediately after a morning breakfast. You arrive in the afternoon and sign in to any hotel of your choice.

Day 5: Trekking mountain gorillas (Volcanoes N/P).

Start your day with a nice breakfast at the hotel and then be driven to Kinigi park headquarters for briefing. Trekking happens in groups of eight people and trekking permits go for 1500$ per gorilla family.

The activity starts by 8:00am and lasts for an unpredictable time that solely depends on gorilla movements. A full hour is given to tourists in the presence of these apes whereby they get a chance of taking pictures with them and discover the mysteries in their ways of life.

You then walk back to the headquarters to meet your driver who will lead you back to the hotel.

Day 6: Mt. Bisoke hiking and golden monkey trekking.

You are required to be at the park headquarters as early 7:00am for briefing and then set off for golden monkey trekking. These monkeys are unique in character and can be identified on the basis of color. In Rwanda, only two troops of golden monkeys are evident with the largest group being on the slopes of Mt. Sabyinyo.

After trekking you can choose to either go back to the hotel or engage in Mt. Bisoke hiking in the Virunga Mountains.

Day 7: Transfer to Akagera NP and Lake Ihema boat cruise.

You are driven to Akagera NP as soon as you return from the hike and then wait for the boat cruise as you relax on the shores of Lake Ihema while watching elephants and buffaloes. You board the boat as soon as it arrives and you bless your eyes with views of aquatic animals like hippopotamuses and crocodiles. After turning that moment into a memory, go to the hotel of your choice to mark the end of your great day.

Day 8: Akagera’s half-day game drive.

This is your opportunity to undertake a game drive in the savannah plains of Akagera for about four hours depending on your choice and animal shifting. You are expected to see such animals among many others; zebras, elephants, hyenas, giraffes, antelopes, oribis, impalas, to mention but a few.

You can make leisure your evening venture or else have another game drive and later have an overnight at the already booked hotel

Day 9: Return to Kigali and climax of the trip.

After a delicious breakfast at the hotel, you bid farewell to the trip by heading back to Kigali with your driver guide. On your way out you have a choice of having a stopover at the craft hop and buy anything that catches your attention and say bye to Kigali with a smiling face.
